Twenty-two-year-old singer-songwriter Dana McKeon will be representing Malta at the 2012 Beatbox Battle World Championships in Berlin on Saturday.
Beatboxing comprises the production of drum beats and rhythm, along with the imitation of various musical instruments, using one’s mouth, lips, tongue, larynx and voice. This can be done in conjunction with humming, singing and multi-instrumentalisation simultaneously.
McKeon is currently the only Maltese beatboxer who performs at an international level (Malta, UK, Sweden, Germany, Finland). Last June, she became the first female beatboxer to sign a non-exclusive contract with Beatbox Booking Agency Beatbook. The beatboxer has just moved to London to take up a music management deal with ANP Media and will be flying to Berlin shortly to represent Malta at the 2012 Beatbox Battle World Championships.
She has been selected to compete among the top 16 female beatboxers from around the world and this will be the first time a beatboxer from Malta will be participating in the popular event. An audience of around 2,500 is expected to attend and it will also be broadcast live on the night here.
