A veteran of local TV and Maltese radio as well as a popular club DJ back in the day, Ray Bajada returned to the airwaves after an indefinite hiatus to helm Radio 2's overhaul. Here are some of the local talents Ray feels stood out among their peers in 2015.
CORAZON
I was very impressed with Corazon's album Hawn Jien, which was reissued this year with bonus tracks. Personally I find it carries on where classic tunes such as New Cuorey's Il-Bajja tal-Mellieħa left off. Id-Dar tan-Nanna in particular has the same kind of appeal.
MISTURA
Another band that struck me was Mistura, whose album U d-dinja tkompli ddur introduced me to the Maltese language delivered with a Floyd-ian twist.
CLAIRE TONNA
A big hand to Claire Tonna, perhaps under-rated but a pleasure to see how she has evolved, especially when performing live.
...AND A FEW MORE
Other bands and artists that left their mark on me this year include Nadine Axisa, Cushion, Relikc, The Madhatters as well as Carlo Cranmer's Remember Nothing project and of course, the two cool ladies in Fuzzhoneys!
