The 43rd edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu – Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija will be held on Saturday, 31st August 2019. The festival features original compositions sung in the Maltese language and performed live.
L-Għanja tal-Poplu offers authors and composers the opportunity to submit songs about any topic in their preferred musical genre. The Malta Concert Orchestra will be accompanying the artists during the performance. Bands and singer-songwriters can also interpret their own songs.
The selection process will take place over three stages. The first stage will include listening sessions of all the songs submitted. Out of this process, a number of songs will go through to the second stage, where the successful artists will perform their songs live in front of a panel of judges, who will determine which songs will make it to the final stage and compete for the top prize at the festival on 31st August. There will be a different panel of judges during each of the three stages, each panel comprising professionals in their field.
During the final stage of the festival, each author/composer may only have up to two submissions competing, while singers may only perform one song.
Song submissions will be received on Tuesday, 21st May 2019. The full list of rules and the application form are available online at ghanjafest.com.
